Scottsdale, Arizona Travel Agent
Protravel Branch Manager
I love being a travel agency manager, especially when I can see how to help people succeed and grow their business and better serve our clients. Many of our travel agents have grown their business significantly in the past year and it is exciting to be a part of that. For example, I have watched an agent who has only been in the business for three years triple her business and grow into one of our top salespeople. She is great at networking and by scheduling consumer events, I have been able to help her and everyone.
Consumers love our events because they are really fun and they learn a lot and get motivated to travel. We recently co-hosted a cruise event with Regent Cruises and booked $250,000 in sales from that one evening.
We are now planning events at the Scottsdale Jewish Community Center down the street, where two of our travel agents are members. They have a great meeting space and we can promote our services and events through their newsletters. We are also paying to have Protravel branding on the LED information screens around the Center. It is an investment in our agents and I am looking to do something similar in Austin.
I love what I do, although I did not set out to work in the travel industry. My breakthrough came when I was 19, attending community college and looking for a job. A friend said that American Express was hiring, so I interviewed for the job and was hired. Once I started traveling, my passion for travel grew.
I started as a travel agent, learned everything on the job, and was promoted to team leader and then spent more than eight years training travel agents who were either new to the industry and those new to American Express. I led a lot of training in cruises and tours as well as GDS and other systems.
Now, managing two Protravel branch offices, my scope has expanded. I still enjoy training and coaching travel agents, but I am also looking at the bigger picture and finding innovative ways of doing things that better market and deliver our services.
